There are times in life when we can all run into difficulties. Sometimes it is enough to talk things over with friends and family but at times we can feel our loved ones are too close to the problem or that we don’t want to worry them with our more difficult feelings. Some of the most common reasons people seek counselling are depression, stress and anxiety, relationship problems and sexual issues. However, there is no limit the to the kinds of issues that can be discussed in therapy and all discussions are confidential. You may be struggling to cope with life’s challenges or notice you seem to be repeating the same patterns in your behaviour or relationships and not know where to turn. At times life’s difficulties can have more of an impact, affecting your confidence, wellbeing and happiness while impacting negatively on your working life or relationships, time spent with a therapist can be invaluable in sorting these issues out.

Counselling is a popular and acceptable way of getting help and support for any life issues. Your wellbeing is the most valuable asset you will ever have.
What to expect: The therapeutic process in individual counselling involves an initial session to determine what it is that you would like to work on, so that I can develop an understanding of how we can best work together. During the first few sessions I collect information about your current life, your strengths, resources, current patterns and some past history. After this we will begin addressing your presenting issues, so that you can start to feel better. We will work together to ensure that you feel safe, supported and contained through the therapeutic process.

How many session will you need?
The length of the counselling relationship is ultimately decided by you. It is dependent upon your goals, needs, circumstances and level of commitment. You may need help with a particular issue which can be resolved in a few sessions or you may be seeking an ongoing helping relationship which becomes a consistent feature of your life. It is important that you remain in control and decide upon the course of your own therapy. A basic guideline is 6-8 sessions and then we would review your needs at that point.
